How to Prepare
Finding the right therapist is an important step in your mental health journey. To help make this process easier, we offer a free 15-minute consultation call where we can briefly discuss your needs, answer initial questions, and explore whether our services may be a good fit for you.
If this is your first time reaching out for therapy, the process can sometimes feel unfamiliar. To help you feel more prepared and confident going into your consultation, we recommend taking a few moments beforehand to think about what brings you to therapy at this time. A short summary of your concerns, goals, or what you hope to gain from therapy can help guide the conversation.
It may also be helpful to prepare any questions you have, such as learning more about the therapist’s experience, therapeutic approach, session structure, or service rates. Having a general idea of your availability for scheduling sessions can also help us determine potential times for an intake appointment and future sessions.
If you plan to seek reimbursement through your insurance provider, we encourage you to contact your insurance company prior to the consultation to better understand your benefits. Important questions to ask may include whether your plan covers mental health and telehealth services, whether you have a deductible and how much of it has been met, your out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient mental health services, and whether there is a limit to the number of therapy sessions covered per year. You may also want to ask if written approval from an in-network provider is required before seeing an out-of-network therapist, and how to submit claims for reimbursement.
Preparing this information ahead of time can help make the consultation call more productive and ensure you feel informed and comfortable as you take the next step toward starting therapy.
